In order to show students the important of writing in the communication world , a mind map was created using 'Writing" as primary concept. Out of this concept others such as "SMS", "letters" ,"Social Networking"," Emailing" and "Handwritten letters" branch out which in turn have other contain subdivisions according to style, register and medium. The branch named IDEAS invites the student to try out one or two of the writing modalities explained in the map. The box "See How" leads to a Word Document explanation of the task; additionally and as a sister box to this one, the student will have the opportunity to share some of his/her own 'writing modalities' by establisihing a link to either their Facebook account, email account or favorite blog. Smart Draw is a very nice program to do this with, but expensive. I used the boxes to introduce either images of the concepts presented (example SMS opens up to a picture of a text message on a mobile phone...) as to the bottom right to this page or word documents with instructions in how to create their own 'writing document' ( example or an informal email or a cover letter).
